Special Bots are hidden Bots scattered throughout each biome of Astro’s Playroom, and were added in the lead-up to the sequel, Astro Bot. Each represents a VIP Bot from Astro Bot, and can be found in the Mission Control Room of the new Labo Basement area once you’ve freed them. They will only appear after you’ve unlocked and completed 1994 Throwback. You can jump down to the wooden platforms, then into a cave where you can pull a wire for this artifact. Artifact 1/3 “PSP UMD” – After riding the lilypad up, instead of jumping left onto the moving platform go to the right into a freezer area. Jump through the ice and hit the button to lower the water, then you can grab this artifact. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – After jumping up through a stack of glass blocks, this puzzle piece is just to the left at the top. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – In the next section when riding the lily pad, you’ll need to jump over a series of obstacles to move forward.
One family , “the Labo level is great for little ones to get the hang of mastering 3D movement. There are no enemies or places to fall but still some things to interact with and so platforming too”. Some platform games require a lot of skill and combination movements, which can be frustrating to master. For younger players, set time aside to help them learn and practise the skills. gg88 are completely optional, so if you don’t have the time (or the storage space to redownload Astro’s Playroom), know that they won’t give you much of an advantage in Astro Bot. On its own, Astro’s Playroom would be a fun platforming distraction fit for younger gamers or families.
Astro Bot from Team Asobi is a brilliant 3D platformer, one of the best PS5 exclusives, and an absolute joy to play from start to finish. I can’t imagine playing it with a standard controller — though I’m sure my family hopes I run out of new discoveries soon. This Trophy is earned by doing well in the races in Network Speed Run, which is located between the blue and green doorways in the CPU Plaza.
Their order in this guide is based on the artefacts, starting with the original PlayStation through to the PlayStation 4. In fact, the only use of the DualSense that seemed superfluous to me was the microphone. I’ve seen uses like blowing into a mic to get an in-game fan to move since the days of the original Nintendo DS, so it doesn’t necessarily bring anything all that fresh here. Rescuing all the Special Bots not only unlocks the corresponding trophies but also adds them to the CPU Plaza, where they can be admired and interacted with.
It includes multiple different stick caps, buttons with swappable tags, industry-standard AUX ports to connect other accessibility devices, and supports up to 30 different profiles. It can also be paired with a second Access Controller and a DualSense, which can all act as a single controller input. The PS5’s Pulse headset is a headset designed to use 3D audio with PS4 and PS5 games that support it, allowing for sounds to be heard as if all around the player, similar to a surround sound system. It also features two microphones that can cancel out background noises, and still has a 3.5mm jack to use as a standard headset. The DualShock 4 marked the first time the PlayStation controller was given a significant aesthetic redesign.
Artifact 2/2 “PlayStation Mouse” – In the section where you are meant to jump across the clouds, instead of going towards the checkpoint you should jump onto the cliff ledges which lead higher up. From there you can climb up to the top section on the right to find this artifact. Puzzle Piece 2/4– In the area with the first blowing cloud, run against the wind to grab this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 4/4 – When you exit the caves and are out of the ship, drop down to the lower floor to find this puzzle piece underneath some glass.

Team Asobi was formally spun-off into an independent studio within Sony’s PlayStation Studios in June 2021. A full-length sequel, Astro Bot, was announced on May 30, 2024, and was released for the PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024. Another unlockable display for the Labo area are some canisters with white logos in them.
There are 4 Special Bots to find in Astro’s Playroom, each located in a different world. Holding the square for a long while will charge a special rotating attack. Astro then for a few seconds begins to rotate and hit everything in reach. Encourage children to “try, try again” until they succeed while taking regular breaks. If you have only unlocked one or two in Astro’s Playroom, they will appear here individually, meaning you can return and get the rest when you are ready.
Astro’s Playroom: Beginner’s Guide
It’s inspired by the characters and concepts first introduced in The Playroom and The Playroom VR, which culminated in the full-blown Astro Bot Rescue Mission for PlayStation VR. The game serves as a showcase for the DualSense controller’s features and functionality. We awarded the game a 9/10 in our Astro’s Playroom PS5 review, describing it as a “love letter to PlayStation”. But overall, in a free game, a slew of challenge levels to test yourself in is just icing on a near-perfect cake.
These trophies are straightforward‚ requiring players to follow the narrative path and complete specific challenges. Earning them provides a sense of accomplishment as you progress through the game’s charming and nostalgic levels. But the joy of Astro’s Playroom, while largely focused on its use of the new controller, is also thanks to Team Asobi’s dedication to turning this pack-in into a mini-museum of PlayStation history. All of them are put on display to be looked at or hit to produce sound effects, pop open disc trays, and more.
Each level is split into four key areas, two of which are reliant on a feature of the DualSense, all are mandatory to complete the levels. As soon as I encountered the first of these, I knew I would have serious issues with this game when it comes to my disability. I opted to enter Memory Meadow first, a charming area with fields aplenty. The mandatory interaction area in this level required the use of the touchpad, namely to flick repeatedly in the direction you wish to travel to move the ball.

Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller
From the beginning of the level, follow the wooden path forward through the grass and up to Checkpoint 2. Tug the cables to the left of it to reveal some steps up to the next area. Continue following the wooden path forward to the next wall, defeating three Knockers and a Spiky as you go. That is basically it, a game that even small kids (6y) can play and enjoy. It also uses the capabilities of the controller in creative ways that hopefully all games capture in the future for a better experience.
Horizon has a second reference with the “Ready for the Proving” Trophy, awarded for shooting a Spitter’s shot with the bow and arrow in Raytrace Ruins. Um Jammer Lammy gets a second reference in the “It’s All in the Mind” Trophy, awarded for beating three enemies quickly with Punches. This is a reference to Chop Chop Master Onion, who gives Lammy this piece of advice early in the game.
